My own view on credentials/certification

by Maurice

Many folks will want to enhance their career prospects by bolting on a professional credential or certification. There are many reasons for this, for example personal growth, career progression or even employer driven.

No matter what the driver for gaining a new credential or certification the individual should look at which credential best works for them in their chosen area right now (short term) and long term.

For example, if I worked in the UK I would more than likely go for the Prince2 certification, if I worked in the US I might go for PMI's PMP credential. That is kind of clear cut, but what if I worked for a US international firm in the UK, then it might make sense to go for the PMI's PMP credential, and so it gets a little more complicated.

Couple that in different countries or even different industries/organisations there maybe an expectation to take a more internal tailored Project Management course. The point is as an individual you have to scan the environment and decide what may be best for you in the short term and long term.
